What is Illawong Athletics' philosophy?

Illawong has adopted a philosophy that a successful athletic club should be built on a friendly and social platform and then, not only will athletes of ALL levels of ability compete, but also the overall standard will increase.

Illawong Seniors will continue to provide competition for all levels of athletes from the elite to the recreational, from the junior to the veteran athlete.

The Friday Night competition at The Ridge will be particularly directed at a social environment with a barbeque and social gathering at the completion of events. Even the events are scheduled so that the more keen and competitive can compete against themselves whilst the not so serious members can relax in a social competition with their peers.

Illawong Seniors also encourages its more serious athletes to compete in the Saturday afternoon competition organised by Athletics NSW. Last season Illawong was the winner in the Club Premiership. This success was evidence of the strong bond that exists between the members of the club. I attended these Club Premiership events and was very proud to see the enthusiasm of our athletes and their supporters. Other clubs commented that they wished that their members would show the same level of commitment.

Illawong has a commitment to provide a varied and interesting program of events on the Friday Night scene to attract more athletes to The Ridge. This year we have moved to a fortnightly program that endeavours to cater for all athletes.

Last season the club had an average of over 70 athletes competing in our Friday night competition. These strong numbers ensure an enthusiastic competition for all athletes.

Illawong Seniors is also very lucky to have a group of people who work very hard to ensure that the summer competition runs smoothly. You will no doubt see them around during the season. With their continued management and leadership the coming season will surely be successful again.
